Organizations are in constant need of leadership. Whether it is embodied in a charismatic executive or distributed throughout the organization, it needs to be clear and appropriate for getting board, staff, and volunteers to willingly engage, as a team, in the challenge of fulfilling the mission. Leaders throughout the organization should be given the opportunity to lead, to reflect on their practice, and deepen their leadership. Organizations (as a collection of people) need the opportunity to reflect on the leadership needed to strengthen the pillars of sustainability (leadership, programs, finance, and operations) and ensure that the right leader(s) are in place to navigate the organization forward.
